Some months back I decided it would be good business to provide services to local small businesses here in my hometown (Lafayette / West Lafayette). There are some developing businesses already most charge an arm and a leg. And when you think they are reliable, then end up going out of business.
I have found over the past year I enjoy consulting and helping local business owners with web endeavors. I get more satisfaction out of that than actually getting paid. And, I have been told that is a start to something good!
So, Lafayette Web was born. I had to buy the domain for $600 to get started. Once that went through (the transaction was a little shady so I had doubt) I began planning how to reach out and what content I would have on the site.
The site has just launched so there won't be anything spectacular. A good cms designer and friend has offered to trade services with me - so for now the design is a designed offered from Drupal (the CMS this site runs off of). Bear with us on the design. I suspect it will be done within the next few months.
In the meantime, I will be uploading client content and creating video tutorials for clients and Drupal users alike. I think screencasts are a great way to learn something quickly, it is definitely more fresh to watch a video instead of reading tech stuff over and over.
** A special thanks to bbishop over on IRC (freenode network on #ffmpeg channel) for guiding me through one step of installing ffmpeg and ffmpeg-php. Once I got through that step it was easy as pie!!!
Here's the big shout to another local small business in Lafayette / West Lafayette Indiana - near Purdue! Oh, here are the type of services I will be offering: web development, ecommerce, consulting, marketing, seo & hosting - Lafayette Web - growing small businesses online
