Yes, it is true. I was approached the other day from a young man who was selling leaves. These weren't just any leaves (no they were not marijuana leaves either), these were hand picked from the yards of our neighborhood.

What was amazing was the price structure. I asked, in a surprise tone (surprised I didn't think of the idea of selling leaves myself), how much are they? He went on to explain, "$1, $.50, or or, free", pointing to the whole bag of assortments.

"Hmm, what a deal", I thought. I think the free ones would suffice. I went on to ask, "Where do all the profits go?". His business partner jumped in and said her half goes to those who need money. And he quickly added, "Yes, I am doing the same as her.".

Of course by now you have probably figured out this new business was kid (6-7 year olds) driven. But, I couldn't help think of how brave they must be to go door to door to sell something that has no "value". The real value in it all is their willingness to do such a silly thing. I commend them on the cause as well. Giving the money raised to people who need it more? In my book that counts for a lot, especially coming from a kid.

After picking out two leaves we gave him $.50. The expression on his face was priceless, "Wow, $.50, that is a lot of money" as he stuttered off.

Is there a lesson to be learned in this? Sure, the next time you need money send your kids out to sell leaves! :)
