iPhone Gear launches, using Drupal

Finally, a long overdue personal project has launched. I bought the iPhone Gear domain back in May of 07, weeks before the iPhone was to launch. A client dragged out a project, so iphone gear got postponed and I missed "iphone wave".

Last month I decided to resurrect the business ideas and start building the site again. Weeks later... there she blows. iPhoneGear is driven by the popular CMS Drupal. The iphone accessories store is using Ubcercart and ubercart contributed modules, which sit on top of Drupal's framework. I have met some challenges and learned that a lot of the ubercart contributed modules are not up to Drupal standards, as coding goes. This has delayed the use of a few cool and important Ubercart contributed modules. I did write a small module to override forms and content, customizing ubercart goodies.

In the coming weeks I look forward to adding a iphone marketplace, allowing anyone sell / buy iphone related things. I also plan to add an affiliate network, which should drive the store sales more efficiently.

What made you pick Ubercart over eCommerce? iPhone gear looks interesting. You aren't actually storing these products and selling them are you?

@Guest25711, sometime ago I wrote a lengthy post giving suggestions for the EC module. Months later I came back to EC to check the changes, that I had suggested, but many had not been implemented. That caused me to look around, I quickly discovered Ubercart about that time and grew with UC. UC has it's shortcomings too though. The one thing I will say about the two systems, my money is on the module that has paid developers. UC has had paid developers (funded privately) since the beginning. From my understanding, a couple of the developers, from UC, were OSC developers. So they were familiar with ecommerce from the get go.

Storing these products? For the US orders, no. I will be buying inventory, storing, and shipping to 28 other countries though.
