That is a statement my sister would have said a few years back. And, even today she still may say it. I suppose many people in the USA feel the same way.

Although my little sis says those kinds of things, I don't believe that she truly believes that. There have been too many divine acts in my life for her to honestly rest in that thought. Plus, she has said "if God was real why is he letting bad things happen in this world"?

That is a very good question I wish I could answer on this post. It is a very important question and deserves a lot of attention, which I don't have right now to give. I can say that many people have debated this very question, atheists and religious folks.

For those debaters who are Christians, they have come up with some very keen insights. Although, not all of them agree they still bring much to think about to the table. Here are a few links to get you started:
