All this talk in the Republican debates about who's better at managing the economy, you would think that at the very least they would be able to balance their own books for their campaign. The truth is, according to opensecrets.org only Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee have a positive balance.
Nobody in the media is talking about this, although it is very important. I understand each candidate is not actually balancing their checkbook so to speak (their campaign managers are), but they should not be spending money that they don't have. That's what is wrong with this country, we spend more money than we actually have and then we wonder why we are in debt and how did we get here.
Take a look at the chart for the Republicans, if I'm reading this right McCain and Romney have a little bit under $3 million on hand. Romney has over $35 million in debt still and McCain stands just under $5 million. All in all, Ron Paul is leading the pack with zero debt. That is how it should be. I don't think he is a great candidate for presidency but I believe he's sticks to what he says and practice what he preaches.
If these figures are somewhat accurate then we can conclude that Romney and McCain aren't thinking about the debt that they have versus the cash on hand, instead all they care about is spending whatever money is needed to win the nomination. That is bad news to me...
Mike Huckabee has a little bit less than $100,000 in debt, and has just under $2 million on hand. If you go further and compare their "spent" figures you will see that Mike Huckabee has actually spent less money on his campaign than McCain, Romney, and even Ron Paul. You have to ask yourself, who's the real conservative here?
