I am bummed. My Sunrocket service has decided to no longer provide service. There is all kinds of slang lang out now to describe sunrocket. My fave is DeadRocket. I love the pic that packet8 has.

Here is where I read the news: TechDirt

At first I just thought my lack of service was a glitch or possible due to the storm from early this morning. Then I saw that my VOIP light on the deadrocket gizmo was not lit. I then knew something was up. After calling deadrocket and hearing that they were no longer taking calls I thought they might have had a knockout like they did a few months back.

Well, that prompted me to look online for some feedback. I found several sites where people are commenting, supposedly the customer service folks from deadrocket, and sharing all kinds of info about the company. I just wish I knew this was coming before I lost my service.

I went ahead and signed up with packet8, whom I originally planned to use before going with deadrocket. Packet8 knows the word is out about deadrocket and is picking up customers left and right. They are giving a huge incentive to signup with them. All fees are waived for sunrocket customers. And, if you pay a year in advance you get some extra savings. For the full year my total came to $160, which equates to $13.35 per month. Dirt cheap voip service!

Cheap is good but what really caught my eye is that packet8 owns their own technology. It is patented and theirs. Unlike Voage and probably others. Heck, I imagine DeadRocket has some sort of technology infringements as well.

I can only hope that packet8 can keep up with the growing pains they are experiencing at the moment. I just wish I would have signed up with packet8 sooner. :(

If you are a SunRocket victim, I would suggest you to try Lingo’s calling plans. They are now offering exciting business calling solutions for making phone call anywhere in the world. They include Business Value Plan $39.95/mo, Business Plus Plan $49.95/mo and unlimited Business Premium Plan $79.95/mo. You can locate the above plans by following this link: http://www.lingo.com/voip/business/office_plans.jsp

Hi Paula,

In the end I decided to go with packet8. I did the 12 month payment upfront and my average monthly phone bill is like $17. That is darn cheap. So far I am happy with the service. No drop calls like with DeadRocket. :)

Packet8 backend account side of things is not as clean and robust as DeadRocket but at least my phone service doesn't die while talking.

Thanks for the tips.
