I have received word through the "grapevine" that Tony Dungy (from the Indianapolis Colts) is planning to support Mike Huckabee for president (www.mikehuckabee.com). Dungy is due to make this announcement in the coming days while he is in Florida, if the source is accurate.
I hope this is the case, as people have respect for Dungy. Dungy coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers some years ago and has been in the media lately about him retiring or coaching for the Bucs. Dungy is a great leader among football player as well as the community in general. His support could give Huckabee a boost.
Mike Huckabee on the other hand is not well known (like Dungy) but is making strides in his candidacy with only a shoestring budget and faith. Outside of my own faith, issues surrounding Christian values, I support Huckabee for the fair tax program. I think it is the "change" that this country needs (to guide us out of bankruptcy) and it seems only a brave soul like Mike Huckabee would even consider making this happen.
It struck me odd last night that McCain complimented Huckabee on this "fair tax" idea and asked "why is it so popular at the town meetings?". I won't get into the fair tax program in this post but I have some thoughts to share on it soon and why this whole idea in itself has won my support for Huckabee, AND how I think the rest of the republicans (and democrats for that matter) have a plan that will break America even further.
I will leave you with this though, a great website explaining what is FairTax about, providing with plenty of myth busters and even a calculator to show how much "you" will benefit from this new tax system.
Dungy, hats off to you for being a leader in sports, politics and in faith! And for Mike Huckabee, thank you for showing courage of an idea that many of us scoff at (even myself - at first).
